I met Danae, who knows a lot about Wolves. She takes care of the wolves at the research center.  She shared advice on where and when you may see a wolf in the wild.  She also told me about how and why the wolves ended up in the research center.

010 - Karen And Charlie live on a boat In Alaska


Karen and Charlie have lived on a boat for 6 years in Sitka Alaska.  They retired from commercial fishing, sold their fishing boat, to buy a home on the water.  They have 2 dogs, from Mexico, which is where they live during the winter.

009 - Karen McIntyre | Alaskan Native Sheldon Jackson Museum Sitka Alaska


I met Karen McIntyre at the Sheldon Jackson Museum in Sitka, Alaska.  Karen is a Yupik Indian from Bethel Alaska, and she belongs to the red devil tribe.  She told me about how her tribe uses fish skins to make waterproof clothing!  Yupik people are known for being friendly and holding large potlatches to celebrate and entertain visiting tribes.

After a wonderful Russian dance performance, I met a kind dancer named Sarah. She told me about same of dances she did and how long she has been doing them. Sarah also told me why there is no boy dancers and how the girls dress up as the boy dancers.  Sarah believes she has done over 800 dance performances!

Melissa was on the same ferry as me traveling to Sitka Alaska.  Melissa was from Sitka, but she had moved away for many years.  She was moving all the way from Boston.  She told me how she and her Dad used to catch all kinds of fish and sea creatures when she was younger.

006 - Jill Nelson | Purser on the Alaska State Ferry Matanuska


Jill Nelson was kind enough to take a quick break from her busy job as Purser of the ferry boat named Matanuska.  I met Jill while traveling on the ferry from Canada to Alaska. Jill was super nice and told me what a Purser does on a ship.  She even told me a story about how a dog once fell overboard and how they were able to rescue it.
